About Your 2026 Kia Forte
Kia is part of Hyundai Motor Group and shares almost every key platform decision with Hyundai. Like Hyundai, Kia was at the center of the well-publicized 2011–2021 theft trend (vehicles without immobilizers), and the brand responded with a 2023 software upgrade. The most useful thing to know about Kia keys: bring the title or registration to all-keys-lost jobs. Kia's security session requires VIN-level proof of ownership and we cannot complete programming without it.
3rd-generation Forte (2019+) uses Smart Key on EX and GT trims; LXS and base trims have the basic transponder remote.
2018-and-newer Kias use Smart Key as standard and the latest revision of the Hyundai-Kia immobilizer. Telluride, K5, EV6, and the redesigned Sportage all share the same underlying platform with model-specific FCC IDs.
