About Your 2026 Jeep Wrangler
Jeep is Stellantis' off-road brand and shares its underlying immobilizer platform (Sentry Key SPS) with Chrysler, Dodge, and Ram. Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, Cherokee, Compass, and the resurrected Wagoneer cover most of our Jeep work. The most useful thing to know about Jeep keys: programming requires a security PIN, which we pull on-site from the BCM. Wrangler is a unique case in the Jeep lineup — its key shell is different from Grand Cherokee and the off-road accessories (winch wiring, snorkels) sometimes interfere with the programming session, so we always check before starting. 2018-and-newer Wrangler JL and Grand Cherokee WL/WK use the latest Sentry Key revision and program on-site in 45–60 minutes.
Wrangler JL (2018+) uses Sentry Key SPS with passive entry standard on Sahara and above. Earlier JK Wrangler (2007–2017) used the basic Sentry Key. We see a lot of Wrangler fobs damaged by water — most are shell-swap fixes during a normal spare-key visit.
2018-and-newer Jeeps (JL Wrangler, JT Gladiator, WL Grand Cherokee, WS Wagoneer, MP Compass, BU Renegade refresh) use the latest Sentry Key revision with passive entry standard on most trims.
Common issues we see
Wrangler key fobs take more abuse than any other vehicle in our shop — beach trips, mud, water crossings, the works. We see a lot of cracked shells and corroded battery contacts. Most are shell-swap fixes during a normal spare-key visit.
SUVs and crossovers tend to have the proximity Smart Key on higher trims and a basic transponder key on the base trim — we always confirm the exact fob part number before arriving.
Immobilizer (Sentry Key SPS): Stellantis' Sentry Key Plus (SPS) requires a security PIN, which we pull on-site from the vehicle's BCM. Programming is reliable across Chrysler / Dodge / Jeep / Ram.
