About Your 2026 Ford F-250
Ford is the truck capital of America and the F-150 is the single most-serviced vehicle in our shop after Camry. Ford's PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) is one of the most well-documented immobilizer platforms in the industry — it's been on every transponder-equipped Ford since 1996, and Intelligent Access (Smart Key) was added in 2011. The current generation uses Texas Crypto 128-bit encryption with the Hitag-Pro family. The good news for owners: Ford has historically been one of the most aftermarket-friendly brands, which means fast programming and competitive blank prices. The not-so-good news: F-150 has been a high theft target, and Ford has tightened the security session on 2021+ F-150 / Expedition / Bronco models, which adds 15–20 minutes to every job but we still complete on-site without towing.
F-250 Super Duty shares the basic PATS platform with F-150 but has its own fob shell on King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited trims. Programming and blank cost are nearly identical to F-150.
2018-and-newer Fords (14th-gen F-150, 6th-gen Explorer, redesigned Bronco, Maverick) use the latest revision of PATS with Texas Crypto 128-bit. The 2021+ F-150 added an extra security layer specifically because of the theft surge — programming on these takes 60–75 minutes vs 35–45 minutes on older trucks.
Common issues we see
Three patterns we see weekly: (1) F-150 / F-250 ignition switches that wear out after 100k miles and start binding, often misdiagnosed as key issues; (2) Edge and Explorer Smart Key fobs cracking around the chrome bezel — easy shell swap during a spare-key visit; (3) Mustang remote head keys (2010–2014) where the metal blade sheers off the plastic head — we replace the whole shell.
Truck keys take more abuse than sedan keys. We see chrome plating wear, broken fob shells, and bent emergency blades almost weekly — most are shell-swap fixes during a normal spare-key visit, not full replacements.
Immobilizer (Ford PATS Plus): Ford PATS is the best-documented mainstream immobilizer in the world. Aftermarket support is excellent across all Ford and Lincoln models from 1996 onward.

Why book us for your Ford F-250
We carry the full PATS programming chain on the truck (early 4C/4D, mid-gen Hitag2, modern Hitag-Pro 128-bit). F-150 spare keys average $149–$179, which is roughly half of the Jacksonville Ford dealer quote.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a Ford F-150 key cost in Jacksonville?+
F-150 spare keys start at $149 for pre-2021 trucks and $179 for 2021+ trucks (the higher price reflects the longer security session on the new platform). All-keys-lost starts at $199 / $229 respectively. Compare to typical Jacksonville Ford dealer quotes of $375–$550.
Is the 2021+ F-150 harder to program than older trucks?+
Slightly. Ford added a longer security session in response to the 2020 F-150 theft surge. Programming now takes 60–75 minutes on-site vs 35–45 on the previous generation. We still do it without towing, and the price difference is modest.
Does the Mustang Mach-E use the same key as the gas Mustang?+
No. Mach-E uses a different fob platform shared with the Lincoln Aviator. Programming is similar in difficulty but the blank is unique. We carry both on the truck.
What about Ford Phone As A Key?+
Phone As A Key is a software-paired feature, not a replacement for the physical key fob. Even cars with Phone As A Key still need at least one programmed physical fob for service writes and emergencies. We program the physical fob as normal.
